Firmware and APIs

Like any other embedded processor, Parimics' chipset relies on embedded software to instruct the chipset what to do, and in which sequence. This is accomplished by Parimics' firmware. Parimics provides a set of APIs and full firmware (embedded software) for the chipset. It is simple and straightforward to change the firmware and adopt it to other image analysis algorithms if so required. The software running on the host interfaces to the chipset through the APIs.

The firmware is available from Parimics, and it can be modified by customers who are so inclined. Parimics made sure that modifying the embedded software or firmware is as simple as it can be; it requires knowledge of image analysis algorithms and the programming model of the chipset.

All APIs are documented and available to the customer. Should these APIs not cover the customer's need, the embedded software can be amended or changed, or replaced in its entirety. The development effort is substantially lower than for competing architectures. Both the software on the host and the embedded software can be modified to the customer's needs with the use of an SDK and an IDE, which are based on Eclipse. Host software and firmware modifications can be performed by Parimics' staff at a pre-negotiated cost.
